If I was to spend my whole life building a rocket ship just to be able to reach the stars, what would I attain? Status? Success? What could possibly be waiting for me on the surface of the moon that guarantees satisfaction beyond a brief pat on the back? Shall I spend my whole life preparing for a split second of fulfillment that is inevitably going to fade in the blink of eye?
The world will always give you a goal to reach that is within its limit of understanding, but what happens when our perspective is shifted? 1 John 2:16-17 says, "For all that is in the world- the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life- is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world, is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever." Any dream brought to you by the world is bound to pass away, but there is a reality found in Christ that allows the impossible and unimaginable to take place in our lives. Whereas reaching the stars in a worldly sense would not sustain our needs and we would be forced to touch the goal only to return back in search for more, God offers a true satisfaction. The reality brought to us through the cross is a free gift our hearts long for that can only take place once we appoint Christ to being our one dream above all else. Envision this life greater than our comprehension: if you think the stars are worthy of designating our every breath in attempt to reach, imagine what it would be like to devote our lives into the hands of the artist who created them! Not only that, but God simply spoke such beauty into existence within 5 verses of the Bible (Genesis 1:14-18)! Consider all the studies that have taken place over the years and yet how much of space lies completely untouched. Now consider how God formed us not just by words, but He personally formed us from the dust and breathed life into our lungs (Genesis 2:7). Consider how all 66 books of the Bible are spoken for us, calling us, and chasing our hearts. Consider how He emptied Himself of such power to be put to death in the most humiliating manner known to men for our sake (Philippians 2:7-8). Consider how this same God gives us the time of day to convict, comfort, and guide us even through our failures on a daily basis. Consider what kind of amazing plans He has in store for each and every one us to be devoting such time into the development of our future. Now picture, what would it look like if He became our ONE DREAM?
